Levitical Law

Post by PeacethroughX on Wed May 28, 2008 3:33 am

When did/does Levitical Law end? There are several laws who's' end was specified by Jesus, and God through Paul, in the NT, but does that mean all are under grace now?

I have one friend (woman slightly older than me) who does not know about my new tattoo yet, but she is definitely going to give me grief about it when she returns to town next week. She eats pork and shrimp, and wears clothes made of mixed cloth, etc. so I'm covered on that angle, but I want a little more than, "Well, what about these that are broken by you as well?"

I have been studying well and praying for guidance, but some additional input would be welcome!

I'm sorry, but I wouldn't be much help in that department and I don't really know what your asking advice on exactly?

But I believe scripture states that Only Those born again are under grace, no matter how religious you are or aren't.

And I believe scripture states that Levitical law never ended, but rather was fulfilled by The Sacrifice of Christ. So we are no longer under the "dominion" of that Law.. as it were, but rather under the dominion of Christ. In this way, He will either be our judge or saviour.

As far the situation with your friend..I'm not sure what you mean?

That she's gonna be upset that you have a tatto?

What can you really do about what people get upset about..ya know? Probably nothing.

But I could be wrong. study

Yes, because of Leviticus 19:28, "Thou shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD."

I think its important to seek in the history about what "cuts in your body for the dead" really was about. Maybe it was some heathen rite in that, i dont really know.

We can say "it raining cats and dogs" today. (i hope everyone know what thats mean, when it rains alot).
But if someone read that in the future, they maybe think we mean that it raining real cats and dogs from the sky.
Do you understand what i mean?

Dont forget the historic part. it can gives the answer in many biblequestions.

Re: Levitical Law

Post by Mrs. Wigrid on Sat May 31, 2008 6:01 pm

I have always been taught, and I believe, that Jesus fulfilled the law for us. The Levitical Law was the big part of the covenant between God and Israel. The agreement was, you follow these rules and you will have fellowship with God. When Jesus came here and died for our sins there there was a new covenant established. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved." We have new commandments, "Love the Lord your God with all of your heart, soul and mind. Love your neighbor as yourself." Now, I don't think that this removed all value from the Law. God never gave the Jews rules for no reason. All of their crazy little, nit-picky rules had a reason. Pork and shrimp are bad for you, man! So, is it wrong to break the "Law"? What is wrong for us, under the new covenant is to go against what we believe God expects of us as his beloved children.
