Re: Hats!
Here is the original poem that started the phenomenon in 1961. It was written by Jenny Joseph of Minchinhampton, England. Even then, she noticed our youth-obsessed culture, the prejudice against older people, and rebelled against it.
WARNING
When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens . . .
But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Re: Hats!
There is this wee mini-Wellington Top Hat that I never actually wear...okay, I wear it while playing dress up...I'll remind you all that I work with young children, sometimes we play dress up...okay, and sometimes I like to play dress up by myself...DON'T YOU JUDGE ME!

I'm actually selling it off 'cause as I mentioned before, I never wear it...also since my hair is black the hat usually just camouflages into it's flowy blackness and just seems like I have a strangely shaped head.
