Cradle of Filth only has the look of Goth. I'd say as far as musik... they are nothing innovative at all.. like Jonas is referring too.
A band that is doing something very, very innovative woudl be Ice Ages, which is the new band of Protector from the infamous Summoning.
His new album especially, is something I know I have never quite heard before, while also being beautiful and dark.

Re: Next step for Blackmetal
I've got the feeling that metal is gonna be next to blues and jazz. Good, well developped musical styles but there's no big progression to make. But maybe I'm wrong.

only the look of goth? please why do you think they are treated as commercial sell-outs by the rest of the bm community? because they now have included so much goth into the music that it doesn't sound like old fashioned black metal anymore. infact because of all the goth, and the bm communitys obsession with what music is tr00 enough they are now by many labled "gothic extreme metal"
how ever i do agree on the fact that mr.filth has been less innovative latly, only playing on past sucess. but i guess that goes for all the big boys, when you make it that big you start playing it safe. and they are after all the biggest brittish metal band since maiden.
maybe not their most gothic song, but it holds a bit of both and i do love it alot... besides the black metal scene has always loved the myth of bathory haven't they

Re: Next step for Blackmetal
I think your "goth" and my "goth" are too different things.
Your thinking of the "look and feeling of a band"... I'm talking about a musikal genre.
Am I right?

Re: Next step for Blackmetal
you are right that we are thinking about two different things... i am talking about the music genre, the original that evolved from punk.
you are talking about electronic music with a dark tone.
