Next step for Blackmetal

Post by jonas von barsk on Thu May 29, 2008 11:43 am

What do you think is the next step for Blackmetal?

What can make the genre more fresh?

the speed bounce is done, the darkness Suspect is done, the oldschool stuff pirat is done, the anger Evil or Very Mad is done!
What can be the new stuff??? .... but still unique and true for the scene??

or what do you wanna get from a new Bm record in your hand? guit

I think the bm scene need to catch something from the dark goth/electronic scenes.
Some of them can realy create atmosphere.

I agree 100 percent on that, Jonas.

Plus, if a genre doesn't evolve, it will die, in my opinion.

Songwriting is more important than originality... if the song has heart and soul, is well written..etc....the individuality of the writer(s) will come through and the outward aesthetics won't be as important. I don't care where black metal or any other genre 'goes'. It seems we just can't be content these days.

I'm not sure if there are things that still have to be done.

I personally would like to make a darkwave folk project,
but I don't have the musicians or abilities to do it all myself

Darkmetal is often more friendly blackmetal in my ears. The electronic makes it more kind in some way. Correct me if im wrong.

The true atmosphere in electronic goth/ebm is often more raw and darker than the most bm bands.
Its not nessecary to mix two genres together. Im looking for the two atmospheres together. And then start to carv the songs.

And dress up like the matrix guys and play!!

"If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat." -Mark Twain

Electronic = man

Black metal = cat

Black metal is not in danger of dying, nor would all this electronic/symphonic hogwash save it if it were. The deeper you get into the subgenre and the more outstanding bands you hear that possess neither sampling/electronics nor overwhelming keys, the more you will come to respect black metal as an entity unto itself.

Too bad I wasn't in sweden, we could collaborate and create a new style of metal/dark industrial or something, since we both see that as plausible. pp
